Enabling and testing email configuration on your moodle server

I recently set up a moodle instance on a new server.  I forgot to enable the email.  I found out when one of my customers says "James, I tried sending login info to one of the accounts I created and they said they never got the email"...or something like that.

I thought, "opps, I did not set up the email in the new instance.".

Setting up email steps

Site Admin | Plugins | Message outputs | Email

Specify the following items:

SMTP Host: -  I used IP address..
SMTP Username
SMTP Password

I am simply using the same data that I have in 9 other moodle installs, so I did not have to ask for credentials to be created by the folks managing the SMTP mail server.

I tested the email operation by messaging my moodle account on the server and visualizing the email into the account specified.

The end.

  1. You can also give the new Mail Test plugin a try when setting up a new instance of Moodle. You'll find it at: https://moodle.org/plugins/view/local_mailtest
