We are in the process of upgrading a moodle 1.9 instance to 2.3. One of the first questions my customer asked me was will I still be able to create accounts and enroll students symantaniously? I have been saying to her all along that we would not be enrolling this way when we migrated, but if moodle can do it and she wants to do it, well, she is the customer.
Her first attempt created the accounts fine, once she updated the default password to obey the more restrictive password policy. She added a 1! to the end of changeme in the .CSV file, BUT did not enroll the students in a course. I am willing to spend some time on this for her, before I say "well, you are just going to have to enrol them manually.
I found this post where someone is at least doing the bulk account creation and discusses why he likes the approach. He also points us to the moodle docs for this process.
I ended up having to edit the text file (csv) a little for my customer, but once I removed a trailing comma from one of the data rows, AND DELETED THE ACCOUNTS, there where only two, I was able to do a bulk account creation and enrollment. There are a *few options in the upload area for doing this, I suspect a bit of trial and error is in order.
Rather trivial to get it to work, nice job moodle engineers.
