Guest access bug in moodle 2.3?

I have a newly upgraded moodle 2.3 instance where a customer said to me they were not able to get a course to have guess access.  What was really happening was no course on the site would "recognize" a guest access provision that was being made on a course.

I added the guest enrollment method to the course.

Ensured the course properties were set to allow guest access with the enrollment key

I could see the icon on the course in the listing

When I attempted to access the course, it would ignore my guest permission with the key and jump to the login screen.

I trolled through the moodle docs to see if I was missing a setting.  Mary Cooch makes a similar suggestion in this moodle forum, in hindsight its a little more obvious.

In the end, I needed to active this setting to allow the guest access to work!

Site Admin | Users | Permissions | User policies | Auto-login guests

needed to be turned on.....hmmm, this must be a bug.

 

Moral of the story?

Not sure, sometimes you need to trial and error a bit to solve problems. OR

To allow guest access in moodle 2.3, ensure you active this setting!
