One of our music teachers is requesting a moodle plugin called LTI Provider. I have looked over the documentation for it, and found it a little confusing. Probably because I have not seen it before and its purpose is to integrate with external systems. It has a concept of a consumer and a provider. I wonder how much this teacher knows about how this plugin works?
A very core concept in LMS's is integration between dissimilar system. Allow content to connect and users to collaborate using different LMS's, do away with the silo approach. Everything must connect....to that end, this plugin is serving that vision.
"IMS is developing Learning Tools Interoperability to allow remote tools and content to be integrated into a LMS"
I am going to install it and our trainer is going to work with the teacher on using it.....should be interesting.
There is a decent readme file included with the plugin, but not much in terms of installing. The readme file saying unzip the download and place the content, a folder called ltiprovider in the local folder of the installation and moodle will do the rest, assuming you are logged in as an admin and refresh a page on the site.
A couple other notes about the local directory where i am installing this plugin. There is a readme file in the root of the local folder that says
"this directory is the recommended place for lcoal customizations. Whenerver possible use one the standard plug in points like modules, blocks, themes."
This plugin is going in the local directory and not the modules directory because ????? not sure...
The ltiprovider folder has all the typical hallmarks of a moodle compliant plugin.
DB folder
version.php
Lang folder
index.php
I did find on another documenation page, that i had to enable a setting to allow embedding of some sort on another system. The setting is here Site Admin | Security | HTTP security| Allow Frame embedding
After installing the plugin, I see a link in the course navigation block, LTI provider. Clicking the link invokes a form with options to specify where and what is being connected....
