How I made a course for one student with less content

I had a request today like this "James, one of the students in course bla is not taking all of the course.  How can we remove some of the questions from the final (quiz) for this student".?

After a little thought, I choose the path of least resistance, which was to duplicate the quiz on the course home page.

Duplicating the quiz.

I turned on editing and clicked the icon next to the quiz.  The quiz duplicated in about 2 minutes.  The quiz has 60 questions in it.  I choose the duplicated quiz and edited the properties changing the
1 - name
2 - the time limit
3 - the number of attempts
4 - In Common module settings, activated Grouping and the Group mode, selecting the name of the group the student is in (williamson)

I also notice that the attempts from the source (original quiz) did not transfer into the copied quiz.  Moodle is smart because if there are attempts in the quiz, you cannot remove or alter the quiz!

In the copied quiz, Just to be sure I could, I
  • - removed a question
  • - added a questions
My customer called me back today saying she could see the new quizzes in the course page (good) but in the Grades: User report, the quizzes were not showing in the correct categories.  This is problematic, because then the aggregation scores are not accurate.

I was able to move them into the Percent of Course Completed category by:

1 - changing to the full view

2 - selecting the two Final Exams Part 1 and 2 - the select boxes are in the last column, on the right

3 - choosing Move selected items to: Percent of Course Completed

Once the items were moved, my customer was happy.  The last thing we needed to do was to inform the teacher of the course that it was safe for her to edit and remove questions for those two quizzes (exams).
