Resetting quiz attemps

In our moodle instance, we set all course quizzes to a single attempt with a time limit.  We do not want to leave the graded quizzes open ended, because it is too easy to cheat.  Perhaps leaving a practice or sample quiz open all the time (no attempt or time limits) is a good idea, but that is fodder for latter discussion.

My customer called me and said "James, where is that button that the teacher uses to reset a student quiz attempt?".  She said I saw it earlier but not now.  So, my first thought was that the teacher role did not have permission to delete quiz attempts, and only the admin. role (since she is a site admin).  I quickly realized that was a stupid assertion.  Of course the teacher role can reset quiz attempts!

Steps to reset quiz

  1. Logged into the moodle site in my student account and took a quiz in a course.
  2. Logged in as myself in another browser and browsed to the course where i took a quiz in student account
  3. I changed my role to teacher
  4. I clicked the quiz where i had attempted and saw the link that said 1 attempt made

5.  Then I checked the box to the left of the student name and clicked the Delete selected attempts button.

Pretty straight forward in hindsight.
