What I check in my moodle after an upgrade...

A list of things I check in my moodle after I complete an upgrade. These are just things that I have learned to do pro-actively, rather than re-actively.
  • the site comes back up
  • that i took it out of maintenance mode
  • login as myself (admin)
  • login as a teacher (role)
  • login as a student (role)
  • check that the cron.php script runs, by browsing to it siteurl\admin\cron.php
  • click on notifications - just in case something is not done with upgrading the DB
  • log into a course that has students and progress - check their grades and course access history
  • check the site wide admins
  • check the system level access, what accounts
  • check the course backup area, still see backups
  • restore one of the backups, temporarily - to be sure there is no issue with previous version BU file
  • open MySQL Workbench - browse the DB
  • open phpMyAdmin - browse the DB
In general, take some time to log into different roles in different contexts and make sure nothing has happened during the upgrade.  They do happen.  You can't check everything, and rest assured, if there is a problem in a course quiz or in a role in a certain context, either your students or teachers will discover them. In a perfect world, you would discover them, but that is mamby pamby land.  Expect there to be some hiccups - or disruption and expect your customers to find them.  Its ok, don't sweat every detail or error, just be prepared to say "oh, let me fix that" - and then document it.
