Student grade data not showing up in a restored course backup

Sort of.  One of our moodle teachers has an economics course that has a group of special needs students.  They should have been placed into their own course, rather than streamlined into the same course as normal students.  Maybe we did not have all the information out of the gate.  Either way, since the changes necessary for our group of special needs students involved fewer exams, more test time on the ones taken etc.  We need to move them and their progress to a new copy of the course.

This process is slightly complicated as the moodle instance is configured to an external database for enrollment.

Steps necessary to move students and their progress into a copy of the course.
  1. backup the course with student data
  2. restore the course
  3. look at the new course and verify that student data is there (quizzes, assignments, form contributions and teacher grading)
  4. Synch the new course to the external system by changing the moodle course short name and copying to the section LMSid in the external system.
  5. Enroll the students into the new section in external system

The only odd behavior in the is process was moodle not showing the student progress in the gradebook.  One of the three students data showed in the grade book, but the other two did not.  I could see the data for the students, it was just not displaying in the gradebook.  This felt familiar, so I followed my intuition and went to one of the quizzes where the student data was in place but not displaying and told moodle to regrade it.

Once moodle did a re-grade, the students grade data appeared.

To force a regrade in moodle for a quiz - Choose Quizzes in the Activity block and then click on the attempts.  Then choose regrade all.

To force a regrade in moodle for an assignment - Choose Assignments in the Activity block
