How to allow guest access with a password to a moodle course

Using moodle version 2.3.1.

My customer contacted me with this request.

"james, I seem to have lost my admin. privileges.  I cannot add the guest option to a group of courses in the Internet|Elba category?  Can we add a password of #$#%@#%^"

She did not lose any admin rights, just could not find the *not very intuitive option to add guest enrollment option to a course.

I had to look in the moodle docs too.  After a quick brain refresh.  I logged into the site as admin, browsed to the category, found the courses and performed these steps to each of the courses.

  • Add enrollment method Course admin | Users | Enrollment methods
  • Added the guest access method
  • From the course home page - choose Edit settings
  • Under Guest Access section, added a password

Adding the Guest access enrollment option

Courses on site with guest access

This is what the courses look like from the site home page when you add a guest enrollment option with an option.  The first 2 course have a password set, the first 6 courses have a guest enrollment option, while the last course has neither.

No guest or password

New section in course properties when guest enrollment method added to course.

Simple enought.
