Almost. First of all, my customer is mistating the issue, its not assignments that are not showing in the gradebook, its quizzes. Believe me, in moodle, getting the verbiage correct is important - in avoiding confusion as yours truly problem solves issues like this.In Christxxx Coxxx’ Engineering course, it seems the grade book is missing all of the course’s “Practice” assignments. The practice assignments show up in the Activities block, but not in the gradebook.
After a few minutes, I was able to assert the correct way to pose the issue, It was the quizzes, not assignment activities that were in question.
The quizzes show on the course home page, but not in the gradebook. Turns out the quizzes that were not showing in the gradebook had good reason - they had no max value assigned for them. Turning on Editing and browsing into the quiz edit exposed this issue. As soon as I updated the value from 0 to something, moodle interprets that as grade-able or grade worthy, without that value - they are just practice.
I commented to my customer and the teacher of the course that perhaps the course creator intended those assignments (err, quizzes) as formative not summative.
Choose Quiz administration block - Edit quiz then update the Maximum grade value
