I need to start paying a little more attention to moodle through the eyes of a mobile app. My co-worked and I just ordered I pads for testing and RD. This came from a couple of our customers asking questions about mobile apps and a couple teachers, who have students who are trying to access their courses via a mobile device. I do not have a lot of details about the student devices, but as moodle evolvs and continues to be a real player in the CMS areana, I need to educate myself more.
I will be installing the now official and recommended "moodle mobile app" discussed in this post.

This is an excerpt from the post from Martin Dougiamas - moodle founder.
"Although we will lose a little speed and smoothness in
the interface when moving to HTML5, I think the idea of building up
community effort around a cross-platform mobile client will far outweigh
that and sets us up better for the long term."
This is another good conversation about the moodle mobile device landscape, and reminds me how little i know about it.
I do understand the part about going to a single cross platform application using html5 rather than a specific app. written for a specific device. Try to use a single app that works on any device that plays by the html5 rules. This is forward thinking. Like any decision, there are pros and cons. I used to think this way a lot when i was doing more development work. Everything has a tradeoff, nothing is for free. The tradeoff in this case is the speed and uniqueness of a specific app for a specific device.
